Stop Illegal Delays and Denials

Los Angeles fire survivors and our elected leaders together demand that Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara enforce the law.

If you pay insurance premiums anywhere in California, this is your fight, too.

70% of insured Eaton and Palisades fire survivors report that delays, denials, and underpayments are derailing their recovery.

We Paid for Decades.
Insurers Walked Away.

When disaster strikes, Californians deserve one simple thing: timely access to the benefits we have already paid for in full. After the Eaton and Palisades fires, survivors instead face a second catastrophe: illegal delays and denials.

California already has some of the nation’s strongest consumer protection laws. The problem is lack of enforcement by Commissioner Lara.

Without enforcement, insurance fails as a safety net, and so does our recovery.

Five Actions to Fix the System

Here’s what Commissioner Lara can and must do now:

  • Expedite the State Farm investigation and freeze rate hikes until survivors are made whole.

  • End illegal FAIR Plan smoke claim denials and underpayments

so families can return to safe, livable homes.

  • Stop illegal cuts to temporary housing (ALE) benefits

so families remain safely housed during remediation or rebuilding.

  • Require transparency in all loss estimates

so survivors can verify what we’re owed.

  • Make the CDI complaint process transparent

with monthly public data to hold insurers and regulators accountable.

Is This Happening to You?

Has your housing (ALE) been cut off early? Your smoke claim denied? Or your insurer simply stalled, underpaid, or ignored you?

Lawmakers assume survivors are getting what we’re owed — because that’s what insurers tell them.

To expose what’s really happening, we need your story.
